Tasting notes
The Chardonnay fully expresses all its subtlety in this wine. We find aromas ranging from citrus, white fruit and sweet almonds. Aging in barrels adds to the complexity of the wine without giving a predominant woodiness. The nose is complex and rich with fruity and mineral notes. On the palate there is a rich roundness on the attack and the finish is long and powerful.
Vineyard
Le Clos du Vignon is a 7 hectare plot, planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, located in the town of Marey les Fussey. This enclosure located on the outskirts of the old abbey of Lieu Dieu was already planted with vines in the 12th century. The Chardonnay section, over 40 years old, takes advantage of the sun in the morning as it faces south-east. The clay-limestone soil of this part of the hill is particularly suitable for Chardonnay.
Vinification
The alcoholic fermentation begins in the tank with strict thermal regulation and ends in oak barrels for half of the cuvée. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vats for 50% of the cuvée and in new barrels for the other half. These proportions may vary slightly depending on the vintage. Final blending is carried out just prior to bottling.
Appellation
The Cotes de Nuits appellation refers to vineyards on or close to the Cote d'Or slope north of the village of Magny-les-Villers while the Hautes Cotes de Nuits appellation covers an area to the west at the top of that slope. It includes 16 complete communes and parts of another 4. Viticulture here is interspersed with other forms of agriculture. The appellation covers red, rose and white wines, although most are red. Appellation status was granted in 1961 and there are no Premier or Grand Cru vineyards in this region.
Estate
Domaine is located in Marey-lès-Fussey, in the high-lying area of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vineyards extend over 3 appellations: Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Bourgogne Aligoté. Created in the early 1960s, Domaine Thévenot-Le-Brun today works 28 hectares of vines, which are all located not far from the winery. After training as a hydrological engineer, Nicolas Thévenot succeeded his father, Daniel, and his uncle, Jean, in 2009. He represents the 5th generation of the family at the helm.
